superfoods: an extra big boost comes in a small package

Wheatgrass: One of the lowest calorie and most nutrient-rich foods in the world, wheatgrass has long been revered for its ability to cleanse the body and stimulate a natural and healthy energy. Research has shown this potent young grass shoot to contain roughly 70 percent chlorophyll, making it exceptionally alkaline, which helps the body eliminate toxins and maintain a healthy pH balance
Spirulina: They are natural foods that have existed since life began. Their nutritional content is broad and highly concentrated. Spirulina are rich in vitamins A, C, E and the B-complex vitamins, including vitamins B12 and B6. Since these vitamins are packaged in their natural form, they are in a highly usable state that makes them far superior to modern vitamin supplements. Spirulina aids the human body by boosting the immune system, providing amazing anti-inflammatory agents, antioxidants and vitamin A.
Cacao has been consumed for its invigorating and healthy properties for generations in Mexican, Central and South American cultures. Cacao Nibs are loaded with antioxidants. In fact, cacao is one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet! Cacao also contains fiber and a number of vital minerals - especially magnesium and iron. An incredibly complex food, cacao also contains unique and potent chemical alkaloids including anandamine, theobromine and phenylethylamine.

whole grains: as nature intended

Whole grains contain far more fiber than processed grains, offer more protein, and some trace minerals (including iron, selenium, copper, chromium and molybdenum). They also contain phytochemicals (known as phytonutrients) that get lost in the refining process. Whole grains benefit us by:

  • People who eat more whole grains  weigh less over time than those who do not -  whole grains are digested slowly, so they help people to feel fuller for a longer time and on fewer calories.
  • Whole grains are effective promoters of normal laxation" and these "may protect against both large bowel and colorectal cancer."
  • Fiber and inulin found in whole grains may ferment in the gut, lowering colonic pH (a higher colonic pH is a cancer risk

dried fruits: packing it all with sweetness

Getting enough fruit in your diet is associated with several health benefits, including protection against heart disease and diabetes. Dried fruit is an excellent source of simple sugars, or readily available energy.  Additional health benefits include preventing constipation and urinary tract infections. At Yogabars, we use raisins and dates abundantly in all our bars.
